SAMRi Camp Summer 2016

During this session participants will be provided and overview of what Blended Learning is and what it could look like in a classroom setting. Participants will learn the components of a Flipped Classroom as well as the Station Rotation Model for Blended Learning.

 

“But that doesn’t work in math...” “That won’t work in my class...” Yes it will. Yes it can. Standards Based Learning can and does foster positive learning in both STEM and non­STEM (Flower) classrooms. This presentation highlights comparisons & contrasts between both kinds of classrooms and shares specific ways to manifest the SBL principles in both content areas. A culture rich in the growth mindset, “failing forward,” and internalizing meaningful feedback permeates all SBL classrooms, while the “nuts and bolts” of how this culture manifests in each type of classroom varies. Collective philosophies, differentiated implementation, and authentic examples are interlaced throughout the presentation to make it clear to participants that SBL does, in fact, work in their classrooms.

Number Talks are a purposeful vehicle for making sense of mathematics, developing efficient, computation strategies, communicating mathematically, reasoning and proving solutions. This session will include What are Number Talks?, Goals of Number Talks, The Key Components of Number Talks, Planning Number Talks, Resources to Access Number Talks, and How Number Talks improved number sense and mathematical thinking in my classroom.
